Frequently Asked Questions

When should I register my child?

We recommend registering your child as soon as possible to secure a place, as our nursery can fill up quickly. You will need to make an appointment to visit the setting. Please contact us through email - teddybearschildcare@outlook.com

What will my child need when they start?

  • Formula or expressed breast milk and bottles (we prepare fresh bottles for each feed.)

  • Nappies and wipes.

  • A named spare change of clothes, with extras if your child is toilet training.

  • Appropriate outdoor clothing for the season.

  • Comforter, if your child uses one.

  • Fully completed 'All About Me' form.

How do you keep children safe?

  • Our setting and grounds are enclosed with high fences and locked doors, checked daily to ensure security. Entry systems are in place, and we have strict procedures for children arriving and being collected.

  • All practitioners have enhanced DBS checks and two references before starting. They regularly update training and childcare knowledge.

  • Staff complete safeguarding training frequently. Safeguarding is a regular agenda item at staff meetings, and our policy is updated as legislation or guidance changes. All staff are aware of procedures if they suspect a child is at risk.

  • First aid training is provided for all practitioners. Accidents are monitored carefully, and staff will complete an existing injury form if a child arrives with bumps or grazes.

  • Risk assessments are carried out regularly for activities and resources. Children are also taught to assess risks themselves when using equipment.

What are the staff-to-child ratios?

  • 0–2 years: 1:3

  • 2–3 years: 1:5

  • 3–5 years: 1:8

How am I invoiced?

Invoices are issued monthly, with payments made a month in advance. Payment methods include card, bank transfer, or childcare vouchers.

How can I apply for early years funding?

We offer funded places. Please follow the link on Free Childcare for Working Parents: Check if you're eligible - GOV.UK

What happens if I am late?

We understand that delays happen. If you will be late, please phone us as soon as possible. If you arrive after your allocated time, a staff will stay with your child until you arrive. Persistent lateness may incur penalty charges. Please see our Drop off and Collection Policy.
If you do not inform us and fail to collect your child, we will contact you and all emergency contacts. If no one can be reached, we may notify Children’s Services.

What meals and snacks will my child receive?

We are a healthy eating nursery, offering freshly prepared, home-cooked two-course meals for an additional cost of £3. Our menus are designed to accommodate different diets, medical needs, and special requirements. A morning fruit snack and an afternoon savoury snack are also provided, and these are included within the hourly rate.

How will you meet my child’s individual needs?

At Teddy Bears Childcare, we recognise that every child is unique and develops at their own pace. We are committed to meeting your child’s individual needs by:

  • Getting to know your child – We work closely with you during settling-in sessions to learn about your child’s routines, likes, dislikes, interests, and comfort items.

  • Key Person system – Your child will have a dedicated Key Person who builds a strong, trusting relationship with them, helping them feel safe and secure.

  • Personalised care – We follow your child’s individual routines (such as sleep and mealtimes) as closely as possible and adapt activities to suit their stage of development.

  • Learning and development – Activities are tailored to your child’s interests and abilities, supporting them through play-based learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

  • Inclusion and support – We celebrate diversity and ensure all children feel valued. Where needed, we work with outside professionals (e.g., speech therapists, SEN specialists) to provide additional support.

  • Ongoing communication – We keep you updated daily on your child’s progress and wellbeing, and we welcome your input to help us meet their evolving needs.

Our aim is to create a nurturing, inclusive environment where your child can thrive, feel confident, and develop a love of learning.
